# Link an existing lockbox

> Connect a Codebox you already own from another provider to RentSmart — always free.

If you already own a Codebox from another scheduling platform (like ShowMojo), you can move it to RentSmart at no cost. Linking takes up to **7 business days** to complete, depending on your current service provider.

## Cost

**Free.** No link fee, no monthly connection fee, no charges of any kind.

## Before you start

If you're transferring from another platform, **you must notify your current provider** that the unit is being transferred. For ShowMojo specifically, that means canceling your account through Settings → Billing → Cancel my account.

After you start the link, **stop scheduling viewings with your former platform** — RentSmart takes over scheduling for that lockbox.

## How to link

Click **Buy / Link Lockbox** on the [Lockboxes page](/lockboxes/manage), then choose **Link a Lockbox**.

    On the first page of the modal, pick **Link a Lockbox**. Click **Next**.

    RentSmart currently supports linking **Codeboxes** only. Select Codebox and click **Continue**.

  <Step title="Enter Codebox details">
    Fill in:

    * **Current Service Provider** — the platform the Codebox is on right now
    * **Serial Number** — from the physical unit
    * **Shackle Code** (5 digits)
    * **Door Code** (5 digits)
    * **Admin Code** (6 digits)

    Click **Add Codebox**. You'll see a confirmation:

    > Your Codebox will be linked within 7 business days dependent on the current service provider. You will receive a confirmation email when the process is complete.

## What happens next

* The Codebox appears as a **Processing Codebox** card on the [Lockboxes page](/lockboxes/manage) with the serial number you entered
* RentSmart coordinates the transfer with Codebox over the next several business days
* When linking completes, the status changes from Processing → **Unassigned**
* You'll receive a confirmation email
* The Codebox is now ready to be assigned to a property

## During the 7-business-day window

* Don't schedule new viewings through your former platform
* The Codebox keeps working physically — you just can't use it through RentSmart yet
* Email reaches out to all parties of the transfer to coordinate timing
